Marina del Rey maintains several beautiful open public spaces including the twelve acre Burton W. Chace Park Park where a promontory grassy knoll allows one to enjoy delightful marina view. Chace Park, named for a former Long Beach mayor, hosts MDR's summer concert series held here on Thursdays and Saturdays from June to August. Park amenities include picnic shelters, guest docks, boating facilities and a seasonal cafe.

Marina del Ray is in the Los Angeles Unified School which operates the Coeur d'Alene Avenue Elementary School, the Marina del Rey Middle School and Venice High School where all MDR youth go. The Lloyd Taber L.A. County Library offers computers and live homework assistance as well a nautical collection serving the needs and interests of pleasure craft navigators. MDR remains an unincorporated census designated place within the City and County of Los Angeles.

The seven hundred acre Ballona Wetlands once comprised more the area now taken up by Marina del Rey, Playa Vista and extending north to approximately Washington Blvd. in Venice. The Ballona wetlands are a product of almost the almost nine mile Ballona Creek which was paved with Concrete since 1938 as a flood control channel.

MDR offers a veritable cornucopia of dining delights dished on then raved about by visitors and gastronomes alike! Restaurants enjoying tremendous local followings including Cafe del Rey, Cheesecake Factory, Chart House or C & O Trattoria. Local shoppers conveniently indulge at the Villa Marina Marketplace where AMC Lowes Marina 6 meets Men's Wearhouse and the Gap.
