Placentia's gentrification was well under way before several major transportation infrastructure improvements were initiated to increasingly improve the lives of citizens here enjoying the "O.C.'s" suburbanly supreme splendor in wonderful weather.
Placentia operates seven community parks for public enjoyment including one of the most popular, Tri-City Park maintaining meandering path along open green spaces adjacent a children's play area. Area youth also enjoy the region's very successful pony baseball program. Golfers pleasurably play the Alta Vista Country Club where twenty seven holes of finely manicured greens grace the area's beautiful rolling foothills. Locals enjoy the tennis and fitness facilities, dining at the course as respite from the bustle of the day. The grounds annually regularly host events including weddings.
The Placentia-Yorba Linda School District oversees several recipients of California's coveted "distinguished" honors operating ten elementary and three middle schools as well all three El Dorado, Valencia and El Camino High Schools within city limits.
In Downtown Placentia near the corner of Santa Fe and Bradford Avenues, visitors and residents enjoy the Placita Santa Fe District's community markets, charming apartments, small business bevy and authentic Mexican restaurants including nearby locally famous Tlaquepaque Restaurant. Placentia's downtown revitalization is centered at Melrose & Crowther Avenues where the new twenty million dollar MetroLink Station connects regional residential communities with employment and activity centers while offering transit oriented retail and entertainment options for travelers and locals. Placentia's downtown renaissance has transformed the historic formerly unincorporated "Atwood" neighborhood roughly demarcated by Orangethorpe Ave., Van Buren St., Lakeview Rd. and Miraloma Ave. Prior to 1948, Atwood was one of the few if not only places non-whites could purchase property thus becoming one of if not the first predominantly Latino community in Orange County.
Community residents receive first class medical treatment at Placentia Linda Hospital's emergency trauma room, open 24/7; as well the hospital also maintains the "surgical pavilion" treating patients to several in suite amenities to make one's stay feel hotel-like.
Placentia is the Latin word for "pleasant." Before Placentia's suburban city conversion, some of Placentia's earliest settlers were the area's most famous pioneers including Daniel Kraemer's almost four-thousand acres purchased circa 1865 and the McFadden's purchase of one hundred acres about the same time. When Placentia's pioneering forefather A.S. Bradford had persuaded the Santa Fe Railroad to install a direct Placentia to Los Angeles service line c. 1910, the streets were laid out and several packing houses built nearby to serve the citrus industry's exponential growth. In 1971, Placentia received the exclusive "All America City" award for community organization in conquering shared problems. Placentia's infrastructure transformation has already begun with Orange County Transportation Authority's investment of almost six hundred million dollars upgrading major north-south roadways connecting Fullerton and Placentia, including: Orangethorpe, Placentia, Lakeview, Raymond, and Rose/Tustin Avenues as well State College and Kraemer Boulevards. Today the City of Placentia has fifty thousand residents accross seven square miles.
