The City of Rancho Santa Margarita's (RSM) forty-eight thousand residents come home to thirteen square miles of rolling hills maintained by one of the most effective all inclusive home owners' associations in the region: SAMLARC (RSM Landscape and Recreation Corp), the operative aoperative agent of RSM's community master plan.

SAMLARC maintains most of the city's beautiful boulevards as well more than one dozen open space parks dotting neighborhoods across the community including a trail network connecting the neighborhoods, the graceful "Lago Santa Margarita" (lake), an arena soccer field, a dog & skate revelers' parkland, four separate community pools and the large community amphitheater event center! Residents annually enjoy Lago Santa Margarita's annual fireworks display over the water.

Saddleback Valley and Capistrano Unified School Districts both operate a total of nine esteemed elementary and middle schools within city limits. Adolescent "Titans" attend nearby distinguished "Tesoro High School" ranked among the first five hundred of "America's top public high schools" by Newsweek. RSM additionally enjoys a locally popular Orange County Library serving as community center for local events; hosting both year round and seasonal youth activities as well facilitating adult oriented programs. The RSM Town Center is the area's pre-eminent shopping and dining destination with a Target, Bank of America, Trader Joes and a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory! Upon RSM's incorporation circa 2000, several exclusive enclaves were annexed including "Dove Canyon" and "Robinson Ranch." Walter K. Robinson moved here from Santa Clara when cactus, elders, mustard, salt grass, sycamores and mule deer still covered level landscape. Robinson, later named Deputy Fish and Game Commissioner of California at Trabuco Canyon, would call his ranch and today's namesake neighborhood "Mountain View," here building a one room cabin circa 1883. So very cool, that cabin's beautiful cobble stone fireplace is now incorporated into the Rancho Cielo Home Owners Association community swimming pool area!

RSM is just east of both the Cities of Lake Forest and Mission Viejo.
