Award winning Capistrano Unified School District operates seven elementary, four intermediate and namesake San Clemente High School educating almost thirty-five hundred youth from San Clemente as well neighboring Capistrano Beach and San Juan Capistrano. San Clemente also enjoys several esteemed private schools including Talega Prepatory (K-12); Heritage Christian (K-12); Creekside Christian (K-12); St. Michael's Christian Academy (PK-12); Our Saviors Lutheran (PK-5); and Our Lady of Fatima (K-8).

San Clemente is home to one of California's largest new master planned communities: "Talega's" thirty-five hundred acres will have about the same number of residences situated among nineteen neighborhoods comprised of detached housing, condominiums and apartments. All architecture is uniformly finished in Spanish-Tuscan themed styling and all manner of activity abounds nearby including an 18-hole golf course, swimming and athletic clubs, eight parks, mountain trails access as well San Clemente State Beach a few miles away! Nearby Northrop-Grumman still maintains the High Altitude Test Stand (HATS) Talega facility where the Lunar Module Descent Engines were tested in the 1960's and currently where lasers, rockets and optical systems are tested to this day.

On November 23, 1604, Spanish explorer Sebastian Vizcaino sailed his flagship San Diego to the waters off California's southernmost Channel Island, naming that slight sliver of land "San Clemente" after Saint Clement, whose feast day was occurring that night. Almost 325 years later, Ole Hanson, the former "Bull Moose Party" "law and order" mayor of Seattle (resigning twenty-four months into his first term after receiving 1919 anachists' mail bomb), purchased two-thousand acres with Hamilton Cotton's led syndicate thus establishing San Clemente by the sea. The first sign of Orange County's now settled master planned community pre-eminence came when Mayor Hanson intiated the tremendously innovative step of placing exclusive restrictions on all San Clemente deeds requiring Spanish architectural influence uniformity by way of pre-construction architectural planning review. Mayor Hanson's visionary leadership would enhance San Clemente's long term property values.
